ICC U-19 World Cup 2026: Vihaan’s stunning four-for leads India to turnaround win over Bangladesh

Vihaan Malhotra took a four-wicket haul as India won its second consecutive match at the ICC U-19 World Cup 2026 against Bangladesh by 18 runs (DLS method) at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Saturday.

Both India and Bangladesh are set to play New Zealand in their next matches. Bangladesh faces the Kiwis on Tuesday, while India has a gap of a week before facing it on Saturday.

It’s all over, and a game that has been shaped by the rain. Bangladesh was impressive with the ball early on, striking early to shoot out three Indian wickets early on. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhigyan Kundu then showed impressive resistance, and put up fifties that allowed India to reach a par score of 239 from 49 overs inspite of a lower-order collapse. Al Fahad was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five for 38.

In the reply, Bangladesh began well, led by a fifty from captain Azizul Hakim. It had made it to 90 for 2 from roughly 20 overs when rain made its biggest intervention. A lengthy delay meant that when play resumed, Bangladesh needed 75 from 11 overs, and as it looked to bat more aggressively, wickets fell away. Vihaan Malhotra was the pick of the bowlers, bowling with accuracy and claiming four wickets.

Henil Patel to see the game out. Emon looks for the scoop, and it dribbles away. What a catch, and guess who? It’s Vihaan Malhotra again! Emon slogs wildly, and Vihaan throws himself to the left at long-on to take a fantastic catch and complete an 18-run victory for India!

Vihaan again, and Al Fahad has been run out! Al Fahad gets an edge to third and the batters set off for the single. The throw is good, and Rizan can’t get himself on strike.

Khilan again, and Rizan drills a much needed four! Seven from the first three balls of the over. Deepesh with the diving catch at fine leg! Farid looks to ramp, and Deepesh takes a great catch.

Vihaan to keep going, why not? Samiun tries to go over long-off....Suryavanshi takes the relay catch! The umpires send it upstairs and it’s tight....but it’s gone.

Khilan to keep going despite the tap he took in the last over. Rizan digs out a single. Full toss....and he’s picked out long on! The set batter is gone! It’s falling apart for Bangladesh now.

Samiun Bashir to the crease, single to start. Rizan takes another single. Bangladesh still leading the DLS ever-so-slightly. Quick single to end the over, but this match has titled in India’s favour.

Vihaan to continue. Hakim starts with a single, and he reaches his fifty from 70 balls. Top knock thus far, can he get his team home? Jibon has an almighty swing, and it spins over third man. Pangalia does well to haul the ball in and save one run. More excellent fielding from Pangalia, hares after a ball to turn two into one. Jibon goes high....and he’s gone! Vihaan has struck again, Jibon picks out long-on and the tide has well and truly turned.

Rizan Hossain walks out, starts with a single. Bangladesh needs 40 more with five overs to go.

Khilan again. Jibon drills the first ball of the over to cover, then takes a single to long-on. Hakim goes down the ground, and all the way for six! Massive stroke from the Bangladesh captain! Dragged straight for another single. Jibon drills it straight, and the long-off fielder does well to save three. Quick single to short third to end the over.

Ten from the over, Bangladesh needs 46 from six overs.

Interesting bowling change, Vihaan Malhotra is into the attack. AND HE’S STRUCK! Drops short and Siddiki looks to put it away, but only top edges into the air. The bowler completes the catch, and we have another twist in the tale.

Sheik Jibon has been given a promotion to number five. Gets off the mark with a punch to deep cover for one. Hakim takes a quick single. Single to end the over, an over that may have titled the game in India’s favour.

Bangladesh needs 56 from seven overs.

Interesting dilemma for Bangladesh now, if the rain comes back, it has likely won, but if it is to chase down the remaining 63 it needs to play some shots.

Hakim slog-sweeps for two against Khilan to start the over, and follows it with a single. Siddiki plays out three dots, then slogs the final ball of the over for one.

Bangladesh needs 59 from eight overs.

If we get to the end of this Ambrish over, we will have a result. Hakim guides a single to deep third. Drifts onto the pads, and Siddiki puts it away for four! Vital runs! Misfielded at point, and Siddiki gets another single. Hakim cuts for another single, and we have a result no matter what.

Bangladesh needs 63 from nine overs.

Kanishk Chouhan to bowl again. India very clearly playing for time expecting to go off again. Hakim takes a single into the leg-side.

If Bangladesh makes it to 20 overs unscathed, the par score will be 82.

Deepesh Devendran to complete his over. Hakim tucks the ball away for one to restart the match. Another single to Siddiki. Deepesh bowls a wide. It’s started drizzling again.

Reminder Bangladesh is ahead on DLS if we complete 20 overs and have to go off again.

Bangladesh needs 71 runs from 66 balls.

We have a game! The game has been reduced to 29 overs, and Bangladesh’s new target is 165. The equation is 75 runs from 69 balls with eight wickets in hand.

A small reminder of the scenario at play here. We’ve almost certainly lost more overs, but Bangladesh is currently 90/2 from 17.2 overs. The DLS par score is 77, which means Bangladesh is ahead, but we need another 2.4 overs to reach the 20 overs required to constitute a game.

If there is insufficient time to restart the game, the points will be shared.

The news is that we will have an inspection at 8:45PM IST, post which we will know if there is a start time.

There’s still delay. Umpires are seen speaking with both teams. There are wet patches that need work right now.

Only one over for Mhatre, Khilan Patel is back. Not a lot of wicket-taking deliveries; a few yes, but not penetrative enough. Looks like Suryavanshi has had a cramp, he’s receiving treatment on the field.

Interesting, Ayush Mhatre brings himself on and nearly has a wicket! Hakim edges a cut shot, and it just evades the diving slip fielder as it runs away for four.

The over ends up yielding seven runs.

Kanishk again, drifts down leg and Kundu can’t gather it. Clips the pad and runs away for four. Hakim calls Saddiki through for a quick single and it’s sent upstairs but the batter has made his ground.

Khilan Patel comes into the attack. Tight over to start, concedes just the two runs.

Chouhan continues, Rifat guides the ball through gully for two more. More sharp running allows another single. Gone! Beautiful bowling, classical off-spinner kisses the edge of Rifat’s bat and is taken by Kundu behind the stumps. End of a dangerous partnership for Bangladesh.

Kanishk Chouhan, Rifat edges through the slip cordon for four! Wow, what a shot! Rocks onto the back foot and pulls over the leg-side for six. Lovely shot!

Henil with a change of ends. Far better from the big fast bowler, testing Hakim outside his off-stump. The Bangladesh batter handles it well though.

Kanishk again. A single each to the batters, Chouhan has been successful in slowing the scoring rate so far.

Ambrish again, Rifat picks up two more. Ambrish gets his line wrong and bowls two wides. Excellent from Rifat, gets on top of the bounce and punches through covers for three.

Henil is done for now too, Kanishk Chouhan enters the attack. Well bowled, a tight over goes for just one.

The flow of runs prompts an early change in the bowling, as RS Ambrish replaces Deepesh Devendran. Goes short, and Hakim pulls perfectly past deep square leg.

Comes back well, but a positive start for Bangladesh continues.

Henil again, drifts onto the thigh pad and Rifat picks him up into the leg-side for four. Textbook, what a stylish shot! Henil drifts too full, and Rifat sends him back the ground with high elbow!

Deepesh again, drifts onto the pads and Hakim stylishly dispatches it for another four. Full toss now, and Hakim is game to send it away again. This has been a decent start for Bangladesh.

Henil Patel, star of the last match, is into the attack. He’s fresh off a catch in the last over. Four! Lovely shot, Rifat flicks it into the leg-side for his first boundary. Single to end the over.

Through the cordon first ball! Dramatic start, wider delivery and Zawad throws everything at it. He gets a thick edge, and it goes through the slip and keeper for four. Rifat gets off the mark with a clip off the thigh for one. Gone! Zawad is gone now, wide again and he throws everything at it. He gets a thick edge, and it flies to Henil Patel at deep third.

Last over of the innings. Deepesh and Henil going for the wild slogs on each delivery. One run off three balls. OUT! Deepesh goes for the slog, gets an edge that goes towards deep third and a good catch there by the fielder.

Crucial boundary for India. Deepesh manages to pull the ball towards fine leg boundary for four. He follows it up with a wild slog and that goes way into the midwicket stand. A huge SIX! Terrific hit that.

A lovely hit the down the ground by Kundu. Back and across and sends the ball straight for six against Fahad! OUT! Kundu is gone. Bouncer by Fahad, Kundu tried pulling the ball but gloves it to the keeper. He goes after scoring a well-made 80 off 112 balls. Great innings.

Fahad returns and instantly removes Khilan Patel. Bouncer, Khilan went for the pull but gets an edge straight to the keeper. India is eight down now. Three runs and a wicket in that over.

Khilan Patel comes down the track against Emon and smashes a four off the first ball. Eight runs from that over. India has gone past the 200-run mark.

Kundu survives again! He comes down the track against Jibon, the ball turns away from him but the keeper missed a simple stumping. Couldn’t gather the ball.

OUT! Ambrish is gone off the fourth ball after resumption. Off spinner Jibon looked to cut the ball but got an outside edge. Good catch by the keeper.

We have now a 49-over per side game. The game is starting soon.

Rain has stopped but still some dark clouds hovering around.

The drizzle has become heavy, and the umpires have called in the covers.

Abhigyan Kundu is dropped! Fahad bowls a bouncer, Kundu goes for the hook but skies it. The fielder at the short fine leg runs but isn’t able to grab it. He had to stretch a bit but wasn’t a difficult one. Lifeline for Kundu.

Fahad has pulled his muscle and is walking off the field mid-over. Saad will bowl the last two deliveries. It has started to drizzle as well.

Fifty for Abhigyan Kundu. A fine knock and a crucial one. He celebrates it with a pull over square leg region for a six! Terrific hit that. 10 runs in that Rizan over.

OUT! Hakim strikes in the last over of his spell. Kanishk Chauhan chips the ball and is caught beautifully by the short midwicket fielder. He had to dive to his left and grabbed it cleanly. Kanishk goes after scoring 28. RS Ambrish is the new man in.

Saimun Basir to bowl some left-arm spin. Kundu runs down the wicket, and just about clears mid-off.

Six from the over.

Hakim again, and Kundu sweeps for four more. A little more intent from India now.

The scoreboard has started moving, nine from the over.

Saad Islam again, beats Chouhan’s outside edge again. Short and wide, Chouhan cuts it away for his second boundary. Two more to end the over, well played to the leg side. Four again, pulled this time.

Better over for India, 12 from it and the 150 has been raised.

The captain Hakim brings himself back on. Remains frugal, only four singles from the over.

Saad Islam comes into the attack, bowling seam up. Beats Chouhan on the inside edge. Shot! Stylish flick through midwicket from Chouhan, and it flies away for four.

That four is the only runs from the over though, promising first over from Saad.

Jibon into his seventh over. Kundu breaks free, slog-sweeps and dumps it over midwicket for six!

Better over for India, nine from it.

Emon gets another, slip in for Pangalia. Gone again! Short ball threatened to do the trick in the last over, and it’s come good now! Pangalia gets into a tangle, and the ball loops up to slip.

Back to the fast bowler Iqbal Hossain Emon. OUT! And he strikes! The pressure pays off, and Suryavanshi has holed out to cow corner! Big wicket, and just reward for fantastic pressure from Bangladesh.

Harvansh Pangalia to the crease, and Emon thinks he has him lbw first ball. Nothing given though, and Pangalia is off the mark with one. Nearly gets him again, Pangalia gloves the short ball behind, but it lands just short of the keeper.

Jibon back again, sharp turn past the edge. Three singles from the over.

Slight drizzle in the air now.

Rizan again. Yet again, the batters are starved of boundaries, and the over yields just five singles.

The captain gets a break as Jibon returns to the attack. Had some problems with his front foot earlier. He returns well though, starting with a maiden to Kundu, who has now played 51 balls for his 19.

Rizan for his third over. Maintaining a tight line outside off-stump. Kundu drills one just short of mid-on and the batters run a sharp single.

Extended spell for Hakim. Suryavanshi looks to loft over covers, and it lands short of the cover sweeper for one. Drops short, and Kundu is onto it to pull for four. The boundary brings up India’s 100.

Rizan gets a slower ball horribly wrong, but Kundu can only plink it straight for one. Suryavanshi has gone into his shell a little bit and slowed down.

Another tidy over, two from it.

Hakim again, into his sixth over. Suryavanshi throws the kitchen sink at a slog, but only manages an inside edge.

Fahad continues, Kundu cuts for one. A couple of singles should ease him up a bit. Suryavanshi looking to put his foot on the gas, gets a thick edge to deep third. Another wide down leg.

Kundu gets a release shot! Too full, and he drives through covers for four!

Hakim continues after the break, will Kundu look to break free now? Vaibhav with yet another boundary, cut away for four more.

Al Fahad returns to replace Jibon. Can he strike again? Kundu hasn’t been able to rotate the strike thus far, he’s reached 2 from 21 balls.

Al Fahad goes short but it is down leg. That extra is the only run the over yields.

The Bangladesh captain continues. Good tight lines from the bowler, and Kundu can’t get away. Only two runs come from the over.

Suryanshi has a massive hoick at Jibon, and the thick edge runs away for two. The bowler drops short, and Suryavanshi hammers it away for a huge six. Suryavanshi hacks away over the off-side for two more. Oh dear, the bowler has overstepped and it’s a no-ball. Hammers the free hit to long-on, and completes his fifty from 30 balls. Oh the bowler has overstepped again! Kundu swings at it and misses.

Azizul Hakim continues, starts a little too straight to Kundu but the batter can’t put it away. Good tight over, no runs from it.

Jibon continues. Kundu chips aerially, and is lucky that the ball drops agonisingly short of the cover fielder. Some signs of sharp turn here. Kundu misses the ball after looking to use his feet, but the keeper can’t gather the ball to complete the stumping.

Azizul Hakim brings himself to bowl the final over of the PowerPlay. OUT! Vihaan is gone. The ball held its line as Vihaan attempted to work the ball towards the leg side, squared him up and took the outside edge to the first slip.

Sheikh Jibon, off spinner, into the attack now. Suryavanshi sends the ball over the cover region boundary for a six to end that over and get eight runs out of it.

Suryavanshi begins Emon’s over with a brilliant slash over backward point for four! SIX! Suryavanshi once again takes out the upper cut and sends the ball over the fence. And Suryavanshi ends the over with a cracking cover drive for four. 15 runs off the over.

Emon not allowing Vihaan to free arms. India batters under pressure and Bangladesh has made sure to keep the fielders close to maintain that.

Suryavanshi gets a bit of room against short ball by Emon and he upper cuts it over the slip cordon for four. He ends the over with another push towards cover region for four.

Suryavanshi gets going with a frontfoot square drive for four against Fahad. Pure timing. OUT! Mhatre is gone! Back of the length, Fahad gave a bit of width and Mhatre cuts it straight to cover point fielder. Didn’t time it at all. Early jolt for India U19.

OUT! Vedant Trivedi falls off the very first ball. Shaped away from the right hander, Vedant wanted to defend it but the ball takes the outside edge straight to the first slip.

Iqbal Hossain Emon from the other end. Getting the ball move into left-handed Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He opens India’s account with a single. What a lovely cover drive by Ayush Mhatre to get off the mark. Pierced through the cover region for four.

U-19 World Cup: India starts as favourite against Bangladesh

India aims to continue its strong U-19 World Cup performance as favourites against a challenging Bangladesh in Bulawayo.

The last time India U-19 and Bangladesh U-19 met, it was Bangladesh that came out on top as it defended its U-19 Asia Cup title in 2024. Despite being bowled out for just 198, the Tigers pit on an inspired show with the ball to stun India and secure a 59-run win.

For India, Ayush Mhatre, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Harvansh Pangalia remain from that team, while all but three of the team that started for Bangladesh are in the squad for today’s clash.

India will be hoping that captain Ayush Mhatre can correct his horror run of form in Youth ODIs today. Mhatre, who fell for 19 in the tournament opener against USA, has a surprisingly poor record in the U-19 format for a player who has dominated senior cricket so much:

Three of Patel’s five wickets came during a fiery new-ball spell at Queens Sports Club that left the USA reeling at 34 for 4.

India began its ICC U-19 World Cup campaign with a six-wicket victory over USA last time out. Its pace battery of Deepesh Devendran, Henil Patel, and RS Ambrish did the damage with ball in hand, before Abhigyan Kundu and Vihaan Malhotra overcame a brief wobble to seal the win.
