No. 2 Aggies Gator Done Against No. 16 Florida, 4

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team remained in first place in the SEC standings with Saturday's 4-0 victory over the No. 16 Florida Gators at Mitchell Tennis Center.

Texas A&M improved to 20-3 overall and 12-1 in SEC. With two matches remaining on the league slate, the Aggies own a one-game advantage over Auburn and Oklahoma for the top spot.

Doubles action started with Florida prevailing on court 2. Brooke Black/Valery Gynina topped Violeta Martinez/Anna Perelman, 6-2 to take the upper hand. The Aggies responded with a 6-2 victory over their own on court 1 with No. 18 Mia Kupres/Lucciana Perez dazzling No. 22 Nikola Daubernova/Xinyi Nong, 6-2. Texas A&M took the point with Lexington Reed/Daria Smetannikov grinding out a 7-5 triumph over Lucie Pawlak/India Houghton on court 3.

The Aggies nosed ahead 2-0 when Florida's Black retired on court 4 with Violeta Martinez ahead 6-4, 1-0. Martinez improved to 20-10 on the season, including 8-3 in SEC play with the victory.

Senior Daria Smetannikov put the Aggies one point from victory with a convincing 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 105 Pawlak on court 5. The Marlboro, N.J., native tallied her team-leading 21st singles victory of the season and improved to 9-3 in league matches.

No. 124 Lexington Reed clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over No. 47 Gabia Paskauskas on court 3. Reed also moved her SEC mark to 9-3 this season.

Action on court 1 and court 6 were in the third set when play halted. No. 1 Perez was in a 6-2, 2-6, 0-0 stalemate with No. 79 Houghton of Florida. Perelman inched ahead of Florida's No. 86 Daubnerova, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0. On court 2, Texas A&M's No. 43 Kupres led No. 68 Gynina, 7-5, 4-5.
