No. 10 MT Takes Down No. 1 Ohio State in Upset Fashion, 4

WACO, Texas – No.10 Baylor men's tennis took down No.1 Ohio State at the Hurd Tennis Center in a match that came down to Louis Bowden on Court Six in a close 4-2 upset.

Baylor (9-5) beat top-ranked Ohio State (12-2), making this its first home win over a No.1 team since March 15, 2011, versus Tennessee. This also marks Ohio State's second loss on the season as well as their first loss on the road.

THE RUNDOWN

Doubles were competitive between the Bears and the Buckeyes, all three matches staying close.

Court Three finished first with Devin Badenhorst and Blake Anderson dropping to No. 15 Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo 7-5. Closely followed by a tiebreaker on Court One ending with Alexandru Chirita and Zsombor Velcz dropping to No.1 Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin with a final score of 7-6(6).

Baylor responded during singles. Van Schalkwyk took Court Three in a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over #29 Okonkwo. Badenhorst followed with a victory over No. 6 Kim (6-4, 6-3).

The Buckeyes took Court Five over Koenig with a 6-4, 7-5 win, but the Bears didn't let that keep them down. Chirita responded by defeating his opponent, Nakashima, 7-6, 6-3 on Court Three to bring Baylor up 3-2.

It all came down to Louis Bowden on Court Six winning his match against Carpico in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-0, to give the Bears their fourth point, and snag the victory over Ohio State.
