Rashid Khan: We wanted to bowl first. Gill has a muscle spasm. Hopefully, he will be back soon. Kumar Kushagra is playing his first game and look forward to seeing him play. We played good cricket in the last game as well. It was a good game. We need to bring our 100 per cent here.

We are less than 30 minutes away from the toss. Last year, teams winning the toss only won three out of nine matches. Even though teams elected to bowl first eight out of nine times at this venue in IPL 2025, the team batting first had the advantage, winning seven matches.

The duel today will provide a compelling show of contrasting approaches. In IPL 2025, Rajasthan Royals was the fastest scoring team in the PowerPlay, plundering runs at 10.88 runs an over. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans had the highest average in the PowerPlay last season, scoring 69.16 runs per wicket in the first six overs. It will be interesting to see which approach comes out on top today. RR’s firepower or GT’s consistency?

Shubman Gill is 95 runs away from completing 4,000 IPL runs. If he gets there today, he will become the second-fastest Indian to get to the mark. KL Rahul holds the record for the fastest to 4,000 IPL runs, having achieved the feat in 105 innings.

Gujarat Titans was arguably the sloppiest team on the field last season, dropping 28 catches in 15 matches, the most by any team. The butterfingers haunted the team the most in the must-win Eliminator against Mumbai Indians, when Rohit Sharma, dropped twice inside the first three overs by Gerald Coetzee and Kusal Mendis, went on to smash 81 runs in 50 balls to set up a 20-run win for the five-time champion. All-rounder Rashid Khan, who is otherwise known to have safe hands, led the ignominious list for the Titans, with 10 dropped catches in the season.

The Narendra Modi Stadium proved to be a tough venue for the spinners during the recent T20 World Cup. The spinners averaged 32.25 in Ahmedabad during the T20 World Cup, the highest amongst the eight venues used. Their economy rate of 9.24 was also the highest for any venue in the tournament. If this trend continues today, expect the likes of Rashid Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Ravindra Jadeja to have a tough outing.

Rashid Khan had a forgettable last season. The leg-spinner only picked nine wickets in 15 matches that too at an economy of 9.37. His best figures read: 2/25.

In the last match, he picked just one wicket but only conceded 29 runs in his four overs. Will he regain hi mojo this season?

The explosive pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi is nearing 500 partnership runs in the IPL. They have together scored 497 runs in just 246 balls. They have also been very consistent, registering a stunning average of 62.12. With three more runs, they will surpass the record of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, who are currently the fastest Indian pair to register 500 partnership runs, in 309 balls.

No. Players from both Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals are available for today’s fixture.

Shubman Gill and Jofra Archer will provide a mouth-watering contest in today’s game. Both are central to their teams’ prospects, but in this battle, Archer holds the aces against Gill. The English fast bowler has dismissed Gill three times in six T20 matches, conceding just 16 runs in 19 balls. Archer has also kept Gill’s opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, quiet. Though he has never dismissed the batter in T20s, he has only conceded 21 runs in 19 balls.

Punjab Kings is top of the table with four points in two games. So far, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders are yet to open their accounts.

Jos Buttler, who was prolific for Rajasthan Royals over seven seasons, has endured a rough patch in T20 cricket in recent times. In his last 15 T20 innings, he has been dismissed seven times for a single-digit score. His highest during this period is a 29-ball 39, which came against Sri Lanka during the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Gujarat Titans will hope its No. 3 mainstay can find form and replicate his performance from IPL 2025, when he scored 538 runs in 14 matches.

Continuing with how he left in IPL 2025, Vaibhav Suryavanshi began the IPL 2026 season with another sublime half-century. He scored of 52 off just 17 balls against CSK, hitting four fours and five sixes.

According to Vikram Rathour, RR’s batting coach, Suryavanshi’s development has been exceptional over the last year, and this season will be important for the 15-year-old.

Rashid Khan has picked the most wickets in this fixture - 10. In eight innings, he has bowled at an economy of 6.12 with the best figures of 3/14.

Will he manage to keep the Royals batting lineup quiet today?

Last year, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad registered the third-highest run rate in the IPL across all venues. Team plundered runs at 10.16 runs per over. In nine matches, teams breached the 200-run mark as many as 11 times in IPL 2025. Teams batting first had an overwhelming advantage last season, winning seven out of nine matches.

Shubman Gill has scored the most runs in this fixture. In eight innings, Gill has scored 332 runs at an average of 47.42 and a strike rate of over 136. His best score is 84.

Rajasthan Royals began the season in a dominating fashion. It bowled out Chennai Super Kings for mere 127 and then chased down the modest total inside 13 overs with eight wickets in hand.

Gujarat Titans lost its season opener against Punjab Kings. Titans could only manage 162 for six in the first innings after being put into the bat first. Kings chased down the target with five balls to spare despite a small collapse in the middle.

GT and RR will play the second match of the day today. Delhi and Mumbai are currently playing the afternoon match in Delhi. You can switch tabs to follow that match.
