Australia confirm dates for home Tests against Bangladesh

ICC World Test Championship pacesetters Australia have locked in the dates for their next assignment on home soil against Bangladesh.

Australia currently sit on top of the World Test Championship standings following a dominant 4-1 Ashes series victory over England and will look to continue on their winning ways when they host Bangladesh for two Tests in August.

The opening Test will commence on August 13 at Marrara Stadium in Darwin, with the two-Test series to close from August 22 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

It will be the first time a Test has been held in Darwin since Australia hosted Sri Lanka in 2004 and Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg believes the city is well equipped to host another five-day contest.

“We’re delighted to bring Test cricket to northern Australia and look forward to a fantastic series against Bangladesh," he said.

“It is no secret the international calendar is now crowded and we’re fortunate to have world class facilities available in August ensuring we have another window for Test cricket outside summer."

Australia travel to South Africa for three Tests in October following the Bangladesh series, before a four-Test series on home soil against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand across December and January.

Bangladesh, who currently sit in eighth place on the World Test Championship standings, host Pakistan for two Tests in May ahead of their tour to Australia in August.

Series schedule:

First Test: August 13-17, Marrara Stadium, Darwin

Second Test: August 22-26, Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay
