Coventry City injury scare as key man on crutches and sent for scan at Spanish training camp

Coventry City have suffered an injury scare with the news that Kyle McFadzean is on crutches out in Spain where Mark Robins’ squad are on a week-long warm weather training camp.

The veteran centre-half has been in outstanding form this season, helping the Sky Blues keep ten clean sheets in their last 13 matches. McFadzean has played a major part in that impressive run, being a dominant and physical presence at the heart of City’s back three.

And while Robins is keeping his fingers crossed that the calf injury is not too bad, he admits the 35-year-old is likely to be out for a “few weeks,” although City have a bit of time on their hands to get him fit due to the fact that he’s due to serve a one match ban against Reading when the league programme resumes on December 10.

“Fadz felt his calf yesterday and has had a scan, so we’ll see how things turn out later on when we get the results,” said the Sky Blues boss, speaking to CoventryLive from Spain.

“But yes, he’s in a bit of pain and we have just got to hope that it’s not as bad as we think. It happened in a warm-up before training, playing a bit of head tennis and he went to push off and felt some pain in his calf, so we have just got to wait and see what the scan reveals.”

McFadzean rarely gets injured and is clearly made of stern stuff, so hopes are high that he can recover quickly.

“He’s not injured very often, that’s right,” said Robins, “but there’s something there that is giving him a bit of pain. I’m hoping it’s not too bad but it’s going to be a few weeks, there’s no doubt about it. But you have got to remember that Fadz can’t play until Swansea (Dec 17) anyway because of his suspension, which is two and a half weeks away.”
