Upcoming tennis stars, Victoria Mboko and Alexandra Eala, kept their Miami Open title hopes alive on Saturday (21 March) as they marched into the round of 16.

Joining them in the next round of the WTA 1000 event is two-time Grand Slam winner Coco Gauff, looking to reach the quarterfinal for the first time here in Miami.

Canada's Mboko, 19, defeated Anastasia Zakharova in straight sets 6-1, 7-5, to set up a mouth-watering encounter against Mirra Andreeva.

Philippines sensation Eala is looking to improve on her performance at Miami from a year ago, where she reached the semi-final after upsetting world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals.

Eala, 20, powered into the fourth round of this year’s tournament with a straight-set victory over Poland’s Magda Linette to set up a clash against Qatar Open champion Karolina Muchova.

Eala made short shrift of Linette in the opening set, but faced some serious resistance in the second before prevailing in the tiebreak following five match points for a 6-3, 7-6 (2) victory.

Two-time slam winner Gauff found her groove following a topsy-turvy start to her match against Alycia Parks before finishing with a flourish in her 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory.
