UD Placed 12th In The Nation In Division I

DAYTON - The University of Dayton Flyers finished 12th in Division I in the NCAA Community Engagement Impact Challenge held last fall semester.

In the first year taking part in the national challenge, the Flyers logged 2,521 hours and had a 98 percent participation rate – 389 of 398 UD student-athletes took part in community service during the fall 2025 semester.

The UD football team led the way with 621 hours.

"Student-athletes already understand commitment, teamwork, and leadership," said AJ Schuller, a member of the Dayton football team and SAAC community service co-chair. "Community service gives us a way to apply those values beyond just competition. It allows us to serve the community that supports us and makes a meaningful impact not only in our community but in the world around us."

Dayton women's tennis (89 total hours) and track & field (470 total hours) had the most average hours per student-athlete with 11 hours of service each.

"Being involved in the community allows us to give back to those who give us so much. The atmosphere of support and connection in the Dayton community motivates our student athletes to serve something bigger than ourselves with the same commitment and energy we bring to competition," said Natalie Osiecki, a senior of the Dayton women's tennis team and SAAC community service co-chair. "Serving this community is not just something that we do, it's a part of who we are as UD athletes, and that's what makes the experience so special here."

Some of the organizations UD student-athletes teamed up with in the community last semester include, but not limited to, Best Buddies, Blairwood Elementary School, Bombeck Family Learning Center, BuddyUp Tennis, CareSource, Colin's Lodge, Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Miracle League, Run Your City, and The Foodbank.
