FINAL: Texas A&M 31 - South Carolina 30

1
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - South Carolina is wrapping up its Southeastern Conference slate with perhaps its toughest opponent, and certainly the highest-ranked. No. 3 Texas A&M is playing host to the Gamecocks (3-6, 1-6), which are trying to keep their slim bowl hopes alive. The Aggies (9-0, 5-0) are perfect at the moment and are looking to stay in first round bye territory of the College Football Playoff.

Fifth-year head coach Shane Beamer has a new offensive coordinator calling plays as Mike Furrey will take control of the call sheet this week. It's been a collaborative effort, Beamer says, when it comes to putting together the game plan but Furrey will be the one with the final voice.

South Carolina is traveling to the Lone Star State to take on Texas A&M on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. with broadcast coverage on ESPN. Dave Pasch is on the play-by-play call with DustyDvoracek providing the analysis. Taylor McGregor is on the sidelines for the afternoon affair. Stay tuned to this thread for updates from Kyle Field and join in the conversation on Plano's Proving Grounds message board.

FINAL - On fourth down, Sellers finds Harbor for a first down to the Carolina 31-yard line. A pass to Howell goes for nine yards before the two-minute timeout. Out of the timeout, Sellers is sacked for a loss of 11 yards. He's sacked again on the next play for a loss of four yards to bring up a 4th and 16. Sellers takes off running on 4th down but can't get the first down. Texas A&M takes a knee and runs out the clock.

3:10, 4Q - Texas A&M drove down the field to potentially go up eight, but on third down and goal, ran a trick play with a backwards pass that Fred Johnson recovered. The play was upheld after review. Gamecocks take over at nine-yard line. Texas A&M leads 31-30

10:47, 4Q - South Carolina can't stop anything defensively. A 10-play, 99 yard drive. Texas A&M leads 31-30

15:00, 4Q - Another big play touchdown for the Aggies, another punt for the Gamecocks. Downed at the 1 yard line. Gamecocks get held in the end zone, not called. They call a hold on Collier on the first play of the half. Carolina leads 30-24

2:42, 3Q - Sellers to Sellers for 25 yards on the first play of the drive. Gamecocks try to replicate what the Aggies did and go for it on fourth down. But a fourth-and-1 run up the middle gets stuffed. Aggies take over at their own 30 yard line. Full yard short. Aggies go for it on fourth down again. Get it. Then a deep ball for another touchdown. Game on, ladies and gentlemen. And the Gamecocks proceed to go three-and-out on offense. Uh oh. Carolina leads 30-17

11:26, 3Q - Aggies get the ball to start the half, and do exactly what they needed to, even though it looked like they weren't for a minute. Aggies faced fourth-and-12 from midfield, and they go for it. Gamecocks lose contain on Reed, miss a tackle, and the Aggies convert on a scramble. Couple plays later, 27-yard touchdown pass. Gamecocks need to come out and have a good drive for some points and not let the Aggies gain momentum. Carolina leads 30-10

HALFTIME: South Carolina gets another turnover, a pick by Vicari Swain, and converts it into three just before the half on a William Joyce 35-yard field goal. Carolina leads 30-3

0:53, 2Q - Gamecocks go three-and-out, big play down inside the 10 for the Aggies, then Swain picks off a pass in the end zone. Holy moly, I've never seen anything like this. Scratch that. One play, 80 yards, Nyck Harbor. Breaks one tackle and outruns errybody. Carolina leads 27-3

2:20, 2Q - Gamecocks try to hit a seam route up the middle, and ball deflects off of Mo Brown's hands and straight to the safety. TAMU takes over, after a return, in a goal-to-go situation at the five. But a QB run is stuffed, then a dropped pass that should have been a TD. Third down incompletion. Aggies then pull the 23-yard field go attempt. Holy moly. Carolina leads 20-3

5:13, 2Q - Both teams trade punts, then TAMU gets a drive extended on a third down pass interference penalty. Hard to tell whether the receiver just tripped, or was made to trip. TAMU ball at their own 44. Should be recognized that Johnson and Kilgore both had a chance at an interception on a play, but sort of got in each others way on the second down play before the penalty. Kilgore just got his hands on the football for the third time today, but can't haul in the interception for the third time. This is kind of crazy. BTJ with a great tackle on third down grabbing Reed before he can get much past the line of scrimmage, forcing another punt. Gamecocks take over at their own 11. Carolina leads 20-3

9:42, 2Q - Gamecocks force a three-and-out to start the second quarter, but a beautiful punt pins the Gamecocks at their own 11 yard line. Pass interference call gets the Gamecocks out to the 31. Slick little TE pass goes for a big gain down to the A&M 41. Jawarn Howell has popped a couple of runs. But the drive stalls, and the Gamecocks add three more points by William Joyce, this one on a 41 yard field goal. Eight plays, 66 yards. Carolina leads 20-3

END 1Q - Oh my goodness. That has to be one of the plays of the year in college football. Dylan Stewart tackles the running back and quarterback on an RPO, forces a fumble by Reed as he tries to throw to a wide receiver, then Nick Barrett scoops it up and runs for a touchdown. Holy moly. That comes after a three-and-out. Carolina leads 17-3

5:28, 1Q - A 43-yard bomb to Conception is completed down into the South Carolina red zone, but Gamecocks stiffen up from there. Sends the Aggies backwards, including a sack by Bryan Thomas Jr. Aggies have to settle for a 40 yard field goal. Both teams did their job in the red zone to open the game. After a botched snap and pass batted away, a perfect corner route thrown to Jayden Sellers for a completion, then an offside penalty moves the ball to the other side of midfield at first-and-5. Gamecocks go from what would be a first down inside the 20 to first-and-20 after a chop block. Sellers kept around the left side and ran a long way. Absolutely beautiful throw by Sellers on third-and-7 at the 50. Touchdown Gamecocks, Vandrevius Jacobs. Carolina leads 10-3
