Duo Won Three Matches in Back Draw in San Diego to Cap Men’s Tennis’ Fall Season

SAN DIEGO – Despite not qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championship, the Belmont University men's tennis tandem of senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli won the doubles consolation title at the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Conference Masters Championships in California Saturday. The duo won three matches in the back draw of the national event across Friday and Saturday to capture the consolation crown.

"Stefan and Sabi had a great all-around weekend in doubles," commented head coach Jeff Cero. "Even in their loss to Texas Tech Thursday, they played a high level of tennis and just missed their chances early on in the tiebreak. From there, they continued to play very well and build on their success match by match. I'm very proud of them; it was a great way to conclude our fall season."

After a narrow, three-set loss in the opening round of the main draw, Roi and Vedovelli began their consolation title run with a comeback win over Elon's Veljko Krstic and Nikola Parichkov. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, Roi and Vedovelli took the second set, 7-5, before prevailing 11-9 in the deciding 10-point super tiebreaker.

On Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, the pair cruised in straight-set victories over Fairfield's Alex Aguiar and Diego Alcala (6-1, 6-4) and Binghamton University's William Morais Binnie and Ronin Lotlikar (6-2, 6-0).

Roi, a native of Lyon, France, and Vedovelli, a native of Mezzolombardo, Italy, qualified for the ITA Conference Masters by winning the doubles title at the Horizon League Individual Championships in early October at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex.

As the Horizon League singles champion, Roi qualified for the ITA Conference Masters and faced Old Dominion's Zechariah Hamrouni in the round of 32. Roi won the first set, 6-3, but was unable to take either the second or third set.

Roi and Vedovelli's complete match scores from their ITA Conference Masters run in Cali can be found below.

The ITA Conference Masters consolation doubles title caps the Bruins' fall slate of tournaments. Belmont turns its attention to the Bruins' spring championship season, which will get underway in mid-January in Seattle.
