Men’s Tennis extends win streak against EKU, 4-1

Lions win fourth straight match and 12th straight against ASUN teams in regular season

FLORENCE, Ala. (February 27, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team had no issue extending its four-match win streak on Friday, taking care of business in singles action for a 4-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Friday at the UNA Tennis Courts in Florence.

The Lions (6-5) are off to a 2-0 start against Atlantic Sun Conference opponents this season. This also extends a 12-match regular season win streak against ASUN foes that dates back to 2024.

The Colonels (8-10) did not make things easy in the early going, taking the doubles point with a 6-4 win on the first court and a 7-5 win on the second court. UNA was able to take court three behind a 6-3 win by sophomore Samu Dominguez and senior Lachlan Brain. The duo improves to 4-0 on the season — all from court three.

However, the Lions won all four singles points to clinch the win.

Brain and Dominguez were two of the four winners in singles play, as Brain went to court one and rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nuno Pinheiro. On court five, his doubles partner dominated Joao Barreto for a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Brain's win was the match-ender.

UNA also won courts two and six, as recent ASUN Player of the Week winner Alberto Altur won 6-4, 6-3 over EKU's Fernando Bulnes Garrorena. True freshman Benjamin Meyers won the sixth court with a 7-6, 2-1 victory that ended in retirement in the second frame.

Juniors Izan Orgiles and Alex Despoja were both locked into competitive matches before their teammates clinched the win. Despoja led 6-4, 4-3 on court four, while Orgiles trailed Marek Nano by a tight margin, 7-5, 4-3.
