Australia has been dealt a big World Cup injury scare as Mohamed Touré limped off the pitch nine minutes into Norwich City’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday morning AEDT.

Touré, who had scored five goals in four games since joining the Championship side from Danish club Randers, appeared to have sustained a groin injury, according to the BBC.

The 21-year-old striker pulled up chasing a long ball over the top, and Australians fans will be hoping the injury is on the minor end with the Socceroos’ World Cup campaign beginning in Canada in roughly three-and-a-half months.

Norwich won 2-0 against the already relegated Owls at Carrow Road.

Canaries manager Philippe Clement did not provide an update on the extent of Touré's injury after the match.

“I don’t know yet, but it doesn’t look like something (where) he will be back in a few days,” Clement said.

“So let’s scan. Let’s see and like all the time, I need to wait for the assessment. And then we will see.”

Touré’s involvement in next month’s Socceroos friendlies against Cameroon in Sydney and Curacao in Melbourne is now seriously in doubt.
