Will it be Carlos Alcaraz or Alex de Minaur who prevails in their quarter-final clash at the 2026 Australian Open?

Neither man, ranked respectively No. 1 and No. 6 in the world, has reached the final four at the tennis Grand Slam in Melbourne before. That will change on Tuesday (27 January) as they face off in the prime-time match on Rod Laver Arena.

Six-time major champion Alcaraz has fallen at the quarter-final stage the past two years, and at the 2026 edition he is yet to drop a set. The Spanish superstar can take a big step towards completing the Career Grand Slam with a win over the home hope.

For de Minaur, this is his seventh Grand Slam final eight appearance and another shot at breaking his unfortunate streak of missing out on the semi-finals. With the home support behind him, can the man known as ‘the Demon’ terrorise the world No. 1?

Here is what you need to know ahead of Alcaraz vs de Minaur.

Australian Open 2026 quarter-final - Carlos Alcaraz vs Alex de Minaur head-to-head record

In their previous five meetings, Alcaraz has won all five with a healthy 5-0 head-to-head record. That includes three victories in the 2025 season and two on indoor hard courts, in a match which could be played in searing Melbourne temperatures.

The Olympic silver medallist’s last win against de Minaur came at the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, just two months ago. They have also met in two finals: last year’s three-set showdown in Rotterdam (ATP 500), and Queen’s (ATP 500) the year before.

De Minaur will be desperate to earn a first professional victory against his Spanish rival, having had a recent taste of what is to come when they played an exhibition match ahead of the main draw at Melbourne Park. That also ended in an Alcaraz win.
