West Cork football club still looking for manager ahead of first league game

Castletownbere remain without a management team ahead of the new season.

The seven McCarthy Insurance Group Football Leagues get underway next weekend with the Beara side without a boss since Ian Murphy’s departure last September.

Castletownbere’s interest in the 2025 McCarthy Insurance Group PIFC ended at the group stage after losing to Kiskeam in the final game in their respective group.

Former Cork football boss Peadar Healy was involved as a coach with the Town in recent years, but he also departed with Murphy after a disappointing end to the last campaign.

Despite a huge effort from Castletownbere officials in recent months, there’s still no white smoke.

The latest meeting took place last night.

The players have been doing collective training sessions in recent weeks, but it’s not ideal preparation to have no management team in place at this present time ahead of what will be a testing year.

The Town are away to Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh next Saturday at 4pm in their opening McCarthy Insurance Group Division 2 Football League fixture.

Castletownbere will face Macroom, Kiskeam and Aghada in their PIFC group stage later this year.
