Liverpool fans can't stop talking about Mohamed Salah vs Newcastle, 'looks like it's gone…'

Liverpool played host to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in a late Premier League kick-off.

Ibrahima Konate made his return to the eleven on January 31 after missing a few games due to personal reasons.

But the absences of Joe Gomez and Jeremie Frimpong meant that Dominik Szoboszlai was once again tasked with filling in at right-back against the Magpies.

Happy with Szoboszlai at right-back, Reds?

And would you have done anything different?

Arne Slot’s men, of course, went into the fixture on the back of a 6-0 Champions League triumph earlier this week.

They were also aware they needed three points to keep the push for top-tier European football going.

However, as Slot has already mentioned this week, Liverpool have struggled more in the Premier League this term.

Liverpool fans bemoan Mohamed Salah vs Newcastle United

Against Newcastle, Liverpool started slowly and were largely pegged back in their own half.

They did manage to break around 20 minutes in, with Mohamed Salah getting through on goal.

However, Kieran Trippier caught up to the Egyptian to kill the chance, and many fans are worried about the forward’s declining pace.

One fan wrote: “Prime Salah would of put that in the net, that blistering pace looks like it’s gone.”

“You know that Salah is losing his pace when he gets caught in a 50 yard foot race by Trippier,” echoed a second.

Another stated: “Remember the days when Mo Salah would run with blistering pace in them one on one situations. Getting leggy lately.”

A fourth suggested: “Liverpool will have to let Salah go after this season because he’s lost his pace that comes with ageing.”

“Salah getting caught by Trippier on a break with five yards on him is insane, his pace is gone man,” added a fifth.

Another Liverpool fan commented: “Two-three years back, Salah just scores there. Lost some pace.”

While a seventh wrote: “Just seen Trippier catch Salah for pace, he’s done at this level, unfortunately.”

Should Liverpool rethink selling him this summer?

Will Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool in 2026

It remains to be seen what will happen with the winger this year, but he does look set to see out the remainder of 2025/26.

However, the Saudi Pro League are interested in Salah heading into the summer transfer window, making him one of their top targets.

He will be in the final 12 months of his contract come July and is currently Liverpool’s highest-paid player.

Losing a talent as big as Salah will obviously be hard to replace, but if a good offer comes in, the next transfer window may be the best time to part ways.
