Man Utd star Michael Carrick already labelled a 'leader' now wanted by Serie A duo

Former Manchester United players have found joy in Italy over the past couple of years, and now one of Michael Carrick’s favourites could be next to make this jump.

The squad that Michael Carrick has inherited at Manchester United is one that has several big question marks around it.

While Carrick is unlikely to be the permanent head coach, there is a chance that he will play a decisive role in the future of the club, both in terms of the results he achieves and also in decisions around players.

While Kobbie Mainoo is now unlikely to leave United, the chance remains if Carrick doesn’t see the 20-year-old in his plans.

The futures of Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte are also likely to be decided. However, one player with an imminent decision to make is now being sought after in Italy.

Harry Maguire is now wanted by Napoli and Inter Milan

When considering which current players won’t be at the club come next August, one of the more likely names is Harry Maguire.

While Maguire was key under Ruben Amorim, this season has seen injuries derail his campaign, which makes his contract look a lot less likely to be extended.

Maguire is set to be a free agent come July, but now, according to TuttoMercato, he has clubs lining up to sign him.

The report explains that Maguire is set to see his contract expire, and Serie A is a potential destination.

Inter are one named suitor, while the alternative is that Maguire could link up with Scott McTominay at Napoli.

Meanwhile, current relegation contenders might be keen to sign Maguire if possible, with David de Gea a friendly face in Florence.

United snubbed approaches for Maguire in 2025, yet now look likely to allow him to leave the club for nothing.

HOW will Harry Maguire be remembered at Manchester United?💥

What has Michael Carrick said about Harry Maguire?

Losing Maguire would be a blow for United off the pitch, as he is one of the main dressing room leaders.

Carrick is well aware of Maguire’s importance, as he admitted earlier this season.

“I’m so pleased for Harry Maguire,” Carrick said while on punditry for Premier League Productions.

“He’s done some really good things for the football club, and he’s been through the mill at times as well.

“He’s had some unfair times. But he’s come back unbelievably well and turned into a leader and a real talisman.

“It takes a lot when you’re up against it. There’s no hiding place at a club like Manchester United. It’s fantastic.”
