PSG 'lodge request' immediately after Chelsea Champions League draw as agreement reached

Paris Saint-Germain have asked for a fixture change after being drawn against Chelsea in the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain appear set to receive a significant scheduling boost after being drawn against Chelsea in the Champions League. The Blues will take on the Ligue 1 giants in the last-16 of the competition, with both legs taking place next month.

Chelsea secured their spot in the last-16 of the Champions League by finishing in the top eight of the league phase standings. Liam Rosenior's side will face the defending champions at the Parc des Princes on March 11 before returning to Stamford Bridge for the second leg on March 17.

Prior to facing PSG in the Champions League, Chelsea will be in FA Cup fifth-round action against Wrexham on March 7, before returning to Premier League duties the following week with a home fixture against Newcastle just days after their trip to Paris.

PSG also have a hectic schedule of their own to contend with following the Champions League draw, and it appears the French club are about to be handed a welcome reprieve.

It has been reported that PSG lodged a request with the Professional Football League (LFP), the governing body for French football, to have their Ligue 1 clash against Nantes postponed following the Champions League draw.

The fixture is scheduled for March 15, just two days before Chelsea will host PSG in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

According to a statement issued by L'Equipe, the LFP have confirmed the request was lodged by PSG, which Nantes are understood to have already accepted, with a verdict expected to be delivered in due course.

"In order to best prepare for its two Champions League matches against Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain has approached the LFP Board of Directors, with the agreement of FC Nantes, to request that the match be played the week of April 20, 2026," the statement from the LFP read.

"The decision of the LFP Board of Directors will be announced as soon as possible."

PSG have another Ligue 1 fixture a few days before the first leg of the Champions League tie against Chelsea, which is presently scheduled for March 6 at home to Monaco, but there is no indication of that match being rearranged.

It will be a repeat of the Club World Cup final that saw Chelsea crowned champions in a comprehensive 3-0 win over the French giants.

Luis Enrique's side will have to show similar form to what they displayed in the second half of last season, which saw them steamroll to league, domestic cup and European glory in an unprecedented season of success for the Parisians.
