Jennifer Echegini, midfielder for Super Falcons and Paris Saint-Germain Féminine, has sent a subtle but pointed message to the Nigeria Football Federation regarding the team’s preparation ahead of upcoming competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigerian international highlighted concerns about limited preparation time while emphasizing the importance of maximizing training camps to remain competitive at the highest level.

“Preparation time is very limited. You have to be very careful with how well you prepare for things,” Echegini said.

Reflecting on the team’s resilience despite challenges, she noted that the squad has often had to overcome obstacles, including inadequate preparation.

“Last year, we didn’t prepare as much as we wanted, but we still won. We are a team, regardless of the obstacles thrown at us or the lack of preparation, which always prevails in the end.”

Looking ahead to future tournaments such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Echegini stressed that improved planning and preparation will be crucial for the team’s success.

“We need to prepare very well. We need to figure some things out, so we can be better.”

She also pointed out the competitive gap between Nigeria and nations with better facilities and support structures.

“When you compete with teams that have all these facilities and, essentially, their lives are easier, you’re already at a disadvantage.”

Despite the challenges, the midfielder maintained a positive outlook, urging better organization rather than dwelling on complaints.

“I’m not somebody who wants to complain, because at the end of the day, football is football. But you have to put your team in the best position to compete.”

Echegini concluded by expressing hope that the federation will fully utilise international windows to strengthen the team.

“I hope we are able to utilise every camp window, so we can be as strong as we can.”
